Friends,
On Sunday we celebrated Pentecost at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. We also received a visit from “Cookie” the Llama. (Cookie was brought to us by the wonderful folks at Horsetails Farm.) Cookie helped raise money for our church’s contribution to the Heifer Project. Cookie came to a Sunday School hour program where we learned about Heifer and about Llamas.
The Ukulele Choir and the Chancel Choir also helped lead the worship service. After worship, we gathered on the front steps of the church for a “family photo”. A reception and birthday part was held on the front lawn to share information about Heifer.
Happy Birthday, Kim!
Dear Friends,
Hats, tote bags, and t-shirts celebrating the Centennial Year of Winter Park Presbyterian Church will be available for sale starting this Sunday. They will be a great way to carry a little bit of the church with you when you are out and about. (Perhaps wearing a shirt or carrying a bag might give you an opportunity to share a bit about your church with a friend or new acquaintance!) Here are photos of the hats and bags:
The bags and shirts feature the Centennial Logo for the Church. This logo was designed by Alan Boyd, and it will soon appear on a banner for our church and on the Sunday bulletins.
Here are a few photos of the trip to the Good Shepherd Center last night. We prepared a meal of mashed potatoes and pork chops, spaghetti pie, mixed vegetables green salad, fruit salad, and cheesy-garlic bread for the guests. The crew that goes to cook always has a fun time. If you would like to volunteer to go and cook one time, please do!
Dear Friends,
Here are a couple photos from last weekend (April 28th).
The first (below) is a photo of David LaMotte playing his instrumental song “Shadows” at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. David’s concert was a wonderful event, and it was great that so much of Winter Park’s church family came for the show. (Thanks to Kevin Hay, UNCW & CFCC Presbyterian Campus Minister for the picture!) After the concert, we enjoyed a great dinner in Chadbourn Hall.
The second photo is of the Ukulele Choir practicing before worship on Sunday morning. Many thanks to all of our musicans for their wonderful contributions to our worship!
Friends,
Roger Cates created these two beautiful paintings celebrating the centennial year of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. Please take a moment to enjoy them!
Dear Friends,
At 5:00pm on Sunday, April 28th, David LaMotte will give a concert at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. The concert will take place in our sanctuary.
David is an accomplished and award-winning songwriter, musician, and voice for peace. He has toured around the world, and he is also just a really good person. His music is charming, engaging, profound, humorous, and whimsical. Throughout his concerts he weaves stories which give background to the songs and draw out points to ponder within them. His lyrics inspire and at times challenge us to love all of our neighbors. Blessed with a beautiful voice and dazzling guitar skills, his music is not only engaging but wonderful to hear.

I, along with an entire generation of Presbyterian youth, first heard David play on the main stage of the Montreat Youth Conference. A few years later, as I got to know a camp counselor with whom I was working, we discovered that we were both fans of David’s music. Amy and I went on our very first date to a David LaMotte concert at the Grey Eagle in Asheville. David has also written songs for children, and Lydia loves his children’s music.
David will be coming to Winter Park as part of our centennial celebration. I truly believe that his concert will be a blessing for all who come to hear it. I hope that you come and invite friends, children, and grandchildren to come with you.
The concert is free and open to the public, but all those who come are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item. The church will collect these items and share them with local hunger ministries.
A simple dinner will follow the concert in Chadbourn Hall.
Grace and Peace!
Emile
Dear Friends,
On Monday, April 15th the Deacons of Winter Park Presbyterian Church invite you to a covered dish dinner. Our guest speaker will be Sarah Junkin Woodard from the Center for Development in Central America. (The CDCA is where our youth and adults stayed and work last summer. To read about that trip click: http://winterparkpres.org/category/nicaragua/ )
The dinner will be at 5:30pm followed by a presentation and an opportunity to buy crafts.
Everyone is invited. Bring a friend!
Dear Friends,
Sunday, April 7th was a busy day at Winter Park Presbyterian Church. We continued to celebrate the Good News of Easter by hearing and telling the story found in John 21. Jesus appeared to his disciples after they had “gone fishin’” in Galilee. He fixed them a breakfast of fish cooked over charcoal. He nourished them, but then he re-called them to ministry. He told Simon Peter to “feed my sheep.”
We welcomed the young people who had participated in our confirmation class during the worship service. After worship, everyone came over to Chadbourn Hall where a feast had been prepared. We enjoyed fried fish, cole slaw, cornbread, and desserts.
Later that evening, a group of youth and adults went to the Good Shepherd Center to prepare a meal for the guests there. Taking our left-over fish, we made fish tacos, fresh salsa, fruit salad, green salad, and fried bananas. We also served up some left-overs. It was quite a feast!
A cotton-ball sheep was made by some very crafty and creative folks. During the luncheon, everyone was invited to write ways that they could help serve others on paper fish. Then people were invited to “feed the sheep”!
Dear Friends,
Sunday, April 7th will be a special day for Winter Park Presbyterian Church. During our worship service we will receive as members youth who have journeyed through a confirmation class. The scripture reading for the day will be John 21. We will hear as the disciples (instead of spreading the good news of the risen Christ) go out fishin’. We will hear as Jesus calls them and cooks for them a breakfast over the fire. We will hear as Jesus gives them the command to “feed my sheep.”

After sharing the Lord’s Supper in worship, we will head on over to Chadbourn Hall where a wonderful meal will be prepared for us. We will have freshly fried fish, coleslaw, cheese grits, cornbread, and more. Come to the feast!
Grace and Peace!
Emile
